Olaudah Equiano. Portrait of the writer and abolitionist known for most of his life as Gustavus Vassa (c. 1745-1797) by Daniel Orme in the frontispiece of his autobiography. According to his memoir, Equiano was from the Eboe region of the Kingdom of Benin (today southern Nigeria).
